The Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) strives to support member participation in the annual Conference.

The CSA is committed to the values and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization. We recognize that we owe the richness and vibrancy of our Association to the diversity of our membership and encourage applications from historically marginalized groups, including Indigenous peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, persons who identify as women, and/or 2SLGBTIQ+ communities.

Deadline: April 30, 2026

The CSA has set aside funds to offset the cost of childcare for members participating in the CSA Conference as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant.

Funds are limited and are therefore allocated based on applications received and criteria determined by the Executive Committee.

Note: The CSA is unable to provide childcare services during the in-person Conference at Dalhousie University therefore Conference delegates must make their own arrangements.

Eligibility Criteria and Terms:

1. Membership in the Canadian Sociological Association (must be active at the time of application and through June 13, 2026).

2. Participation in the 2026 Canadian Sociological Association Conference (in-person or virtual sections) as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant.

3. Professional status in one of the following categories.  It is assumed that these positions are least likely to qualify for institutional support and/or the financial stability to manage childcare expenses.
- Student
- Postdoctoral Fellow
- Limited-term Contract Faculty
- Sessional Instructor
- NPO / Community Organization Employee (non-academic)
- Unemployed / independent scholar

4. Care required for child(ren) under 12 years-of-age (applicant must be responsible for the care of all children included on the application)

Adjudication

The adjudication committee will include representative(s) from the Canadian Sociological Association Executive Committee and the Feminist Sociology Research Cluster.  Funding levels will be finalized based on the number of children and sessions in which the applicant is participating.

Claiming Funds

Approved applicants will receive instructions and a claim form in late May, 2026. The completed claim form with documentation (receipt of fees paid) must be submitted by June 30, 2025 to the CSA office and funding will be distributed following the Conference.

The CSA has set aside funds generated from the ‘Full-time Academic - Sponsor’ membership registration category to subsidize the cost of Conference delegate registration fees for eligible members in precariously employed positions participating as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant.

New in 2026: Delegates have the opportunity to donate funds as part of their Conference Registration. These funds will be used to support student participation for those not eligible for the Student Travel Grant Program.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Membership in the Canadian Sociological Association (must be active at the time of application and through June 13, 2026).

2. Participation in the 2025 Canadian Sociological Association Conference (in-person Conference section from June 10-13, 2026) as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant.

3. Professional status in one of the following categories*;

- Postdoctoral Fellow
- Limited-term Contract Faculty
- Sessional Instructor
- NPO / Community Organization Employee (non-academic)
- Unemployed / independent scholar

*Students may apply if they are not eligible for the Student Travel Grant Program.

Applicants must complete the online form by March 20, 2026

Application approval notices will be sent by email on or about March 27, 2026

Funding levels will be determined by the number of eligible applications received and available budget. Therefore, the funding provided for approved applicants may not cover the full cost of Conference delegate registration fee

Successful applicants should register the Canadian Sociological Association Conference before March 31, 2026 to benefit from reduced rates (the final date to register as a delegate is April 15, 2026)

Approved applicants will receive instructions and a claim form in late May 2026. The completed claim form with documentation (receipt of fees paid) must be submitted by June 30, 2026, to the CSA office and funding will be distributed following the Conference.

Eligible members of the Canadian Sociological Association may benefit from reduced Conference registration fees.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Member of the Canadian Sociological Association (must be active at the time of application and through June 13, 2026)

2. Attending the in-person Conference section at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia between June 10 and June 13, 2026.

3. Currently residing in countries defined by the International Sociological Association as Category C.

Eligible members must contact the Canadian Sociological Association to receive instructions for Conference delegate registration at a reduced rate.

Deadline: March 20, 2026

In order to support student participation in the Canadian Sociological Association Annual Conference, the CSA Executive provides financial assistance for travel expenses. Funds are limited and are therefore allocated based on applicant eligibility and criteria determined by the CSA Student Concerns Subcommittee.

Eligibility Criteria

1. A member of the Canadian Sociological Association in good standing (must be active at the time of application and through June 13, 2026).

2. Registered in an undergraduate, MA, Professional degree, or PhD program at a Canadian University; OR Recently graduated (after January 1, 2026) PhD students from a Canadian University without a postdoc.

3. Participating in the 2026 Canadian Sociological Association Conference as a presenter, panellist, chair, discussant, or organizer (in-person Conference section from June 10-13, 2026).

4. Reside or departing (which-ever is closer) from a location more than 200 km from the Conference location in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

- Conference participation details
- Additional sources of funding and/or revenue to attend the Conference
- Equity considerations

The number of approved applications and grant amounts can vary year by year depending on the Travel Grant Program budget and the location of the Conference.

Applications for the Travel Grant will open online beginning January 27, 2026. Applications will be accepted until March 20, 2026 and notification of approval or denial will be sent by email no later than March 30, 2026.

Successful applicants should register as a Congress delegate with the Canadian Sociological Association Conference Fee included before March 31, 2026 to benefit from reduced rates (the final date to register as a delegate is April 15, 2026).
