2020 Lucian Award Recipient
Dr. David A. Kass, M.D.
Dr. Kass received the 2020 Lucian Award for his work on several new methods to treat heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. These studies include a form of nitric oxide called nitroxyl, an inhibitor of phosphodiesterase types 1 and 9, mutant forms of a protein involved in proteostasis called Chip and using a novel pacemaker strategy termed pacemaker-induced transient asynchrony. He pioneered research into the function of Protein Kinase G in heart muscle and how its activation can benefit heart disease. This has resulted in new discoveries with applications to heart failure, obesity, muscular dystrophy, cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis and immune approaches to cancer therapy.
