The Dukes’ Club is organising a Laparoscopic Bowel Anastomosis Course at the Karl Storz Training and Technology Centre in Slough on the 27^th of August, 2024.

The objective of the course is for surgical trainees to acquire an appreciation of laparoscopic colonic resections and perform laparoscopic stapled and sutured GI anastomoses.

The consultant faculty will give talks on set-up, port placement, and operative techniques for laparoscopic right and left hemicolectomy.

The delegates will be split into two groups: 12 senior trainees (ST3-ST8) and 12 junior trainees (FY2-CT2). All delegates will have the opportunity to perform multiple stapled and sutured GI anastomoses on wet lab models. Additionally, junior trainees will have a dedicated practical session on laparoscopic suturing. Before the course, all trainees will be provided access to the Innovus LapAR simulator at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury. Completing the LapPass tasks on the simulator is recommended for all junior trainees before attending the course to maximise learning on the day.
