Keynote Speakers

Mark Cohen, MDDean, Carle Illinois College of Medicine

Dr. Mark Cohen is the Dean of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer for Carle Health. He is a practicing surgical oncologist and endocrine surgeon and a tenured professor of Surgery and Biomedical and Translational Sciences in the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. He is also a Founder Professor in The Grainger College of Engineering in the Department of Bioengineering, as well as a professor in the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.

His research covers several areas, including novel approaches to tissue engineering to create functional organs from fat stem cells; creation of a novel class of anticancer drug compounds that target chaperone proteins; nanoparticle drug-delivery systems for cancer and bone regeneration; and use of mixed reality and AI/ML technologies to improve telemedicine, clinical care delivery as well as health care workforce training and education. His work has been continuously funded by the NCI (NIH) for 17 years, and he has also received funding from the National Science Foundation, the Komen Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the Department of Defense, and even NASA. He has published 135 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has held multiple leadership roles in national medical and surgical societies, including several national leadership positions in surgical societies, and is a founding member and program co-lead of the Holomedicine Association and currently chairs the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Emerging Surgical Technology and Education. In 2024, he launched a Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering and Medicine, which brings together medical schools, engineering schools, and global health partners to advance innovation in medicine.

James Whitfill MD, FAIMAssociate Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Artificial Intelligence at Radiology Partners

Dr. Whitfill is the Chief Transformation Officer at HonorHealth in Phoenix Arizona and a Professor of Medicine at Arizona State University School of Medicine and the University of Arizona College of Medicine. HonorHealth and ASU have partnered for a unique medical school training experience that prepares future physicians for the technology enabled world of tomorrow. Jim received his AB from Princeton University and his MD from the University of Pennsylvania. He then trained in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a fellowship in medical informatics. He is a frequent lecturer at the Biomedical Informatics graduate and undergraduate programs at Arizona State University, served on the Board of the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine, and is a faculty member for the Radiology Society of North America and the American College of Radiology. He is a founding member of the HIMSS-SIIM workgroup on Enterprise Imaging. Jim has been an invited speaker at American College of Physicians, SIIM, RSNA, HIMSS and is a Fellow of the American College of Artificial Intelligence and Medicine (FAIM).

CME Credit Information

Participants who attend the Scientific Session of the American College of AI and Medicine (ACAIM) and complete the required evaluation process will be eligible to receive CME credit based on the number of sessions attended.

How to Claim Your CME Credit

Participants will be required to complete both the ISMS evaluation form and the ISMS CME Credit Request Form
Both the Evaluation Form and CME Credit Request Form will be emailed to all registered attendees after the CME activity has been completed.
Please note all CME certificates will be emailed to participants within 4 weeks of submitting the above forms.

By showcasing peer-reviewed AI studies from the last 12-48 months, participants will learn how to critically evaluate emerging tools and integrate them into everyday practice.

- Focused sessions on bias and governance will improve competence in risk assessment and reduce disparities in care.

- Sessions will encourage performance improvements in documentation, patient safety, and team-based approaches using a variety of modalities, including interactive panels, case discussions, and Q&A.

- Ensure that AI-enabled healthcare is culturally sensitive, respectful of patient beliefs, and avoids discrimination, while safeguarding patient data and promoting transparency and accountability.

Learning Objectives:
1. Appraise newly published AI studies across multiple medical specialties and assess the quality of evidence supporting each tool.
2. Identify potential algorithmic biases and develop strategies to mitigate them in clinical settings.
3. Implement AI solutions in day-to-day practice to improve efficiency, reduce burnout, and enhance patient outcomes.
4. Evaluate governance frameworks and safety standards relevant to AI integration and apply them to ensure ethical and effective deployment.

The Illinois State Medical Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 15 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits^TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
