MOCT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Advanced Workshop (2024)
Overview:
Tailored to clinicians seeking to deepen their skills, this virtual 8-hour workshop will introduce participants to the foundational principles of ACT (e.g., third wave of cognitive behavioural therapies, functional contextualism, etc.); it will explore the ACT model of psychopathology and key processes responsible for psychopathology and conversely, psychological well-being (e.g., experiential avoidance, lack of contact with the present moment, cognitive fusion, lack of values clarification and committed action, self as context) and outline the core skills of acceptance, present moment awareness, self-as-context, values, committed action, and defusion.
Learning Objectives:
1. Assessment and Formulation using ACT model of psychopathology.
2. The Hexaflex Model - working toward Psychological Flexibility
3. Functional Contextualism, The Function of Behaviour, Form vs. Function
4. Techniques for Moving Key Processes in ACT: defusion techniques, acceptance and willingness techniques, values clarification techniques, contact with the present moment techniques, self as context techniques, committed action techniques.
5. The Use of Metaphors to Advance Key ACT processes
6. The ACT Matrix - a transdiagnostic way of addressing psychoemotional struggle and of building psychological flexibility.
7. The Therapeutic Process and The Context of ACT intervention (e.g., ACT and the medical model, the relevance of the cultural context, process vs. protocol, pragmatism over truth, etc.)
