Global Call to Open Air Quality Data

The session will be co-chaired by Dr Christa Hasenkopf and Prof. Engineer Bainomugisha.

Limited access to actionable and open air quality data remains a major barrier for countries seeking to develop effective policies and interventions to tackle air pollution. As a result, billions of people lack the evidence needed to address air pollution and protect public health. This session will introduce the Five Principles and  Global Call to Action to Close Air Quality Data Gaps, aligning African leadership with global efforts to reduce air pollution deaths by 2040.

Session Objectives
Socialise the Open Air Quality Data Principles. Introduce the five core principles for open, sustained, and harmonized air quality monitoring.

Mobilize Commitments: Encourage African governments, academia, and private sector partners to endorse the Global Call to Action on open air quality data.

Demonstrate Value: Highlight how transitioning from closed to fully open air quality data systems can unlock stronger policies, economic benefits, and improved public health outcomes.
