9th Annual AGMHI Conference: Youth Mental Health in Africa & the Diaspora

This year’s conference, themed “Youth Mental Health in Africa & the Diaspora,” adopts a life-course and systems-oriented understanding of youth mental health that encompasses perinatal mental health, children, adolescents, and young people, as well as their caregivers and the institutional systems that support them. The conference will: 1) highlight innovative, contextually grounded research that advances understanding of the biological, social, and cultural determinants of mental health across early life and adolescence; 2) showcase models of evidence-based and culturally responsive clinical care for infants, children, adolescents, and young people; 3) examine policies that shape mental health systems and access for young people and their families; and 4) uplift community-driven approaches—including youth voices, caregiving relationships, and traditional healing practices—that promote resilience and wellbeing. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to strengthen pathways to healthier futures for Africa’s youth and the generations to come.
