Buddy Program
The ASM Buddy Program
This ASM, we are excited to introduce the ASM buddy program. This is a new initiative designed to support conference attendees throughout the week. We will be pairing new(er) attendees with experienced participants to encourage new connections across the Arctic Research community; and help conference attendees feel more comfortable, confident and engaged. Our hope is that all attendees feel supported and empowered to participate meaningfully in everything the ASM has to offer
How it works
Interested participants can register for the Buddy Program when completing the ASM registration form.
Participants will be matched based on their applications, including shared research interests or fields and relevant demographic information.
Buddies may connect online (via email or video conference) before the conference to introduce themselves before meeting at the conference in person.
During the event, buddies may attend sessions together, enjoy a meal together, introduce each other to colleagues, or check in periodically.
Who is a good fit for the Buddy Program?
First-time conference attendees
Attendees looking to expand their network and build new and meaningful connections
Attendees familiar with the ASM who want to mentor/enjoy mentoring and welcoming others
Attendees who would just like extra support navigating the conference.
Important notes
Buddy pairs will be matched as closely to participants' preferences as possible. However, we cannot guarantee that all preferences will be met.
Applications submitted by October 17 will be reviewed together. Applications received after that date will be matched based on availability.
Depending on the number of participants, some experienced attendees may be matched with up to two buddies to ensure as many participants as possible can take part in the program.
If a participant becomes unavailable before or during the conference, or if a buddy pairing is not working as expected, participants may contact arcticnetasm2026@jpdl.com to confidentially discuss a new match, where possible.
Participation in the Buddy Program is entirely voluntary. Participants may withdraw from the program at any time by notifying arcticnetasm2026@jpdl.com
The Buddy Program is intended to provide peer support and help participants navigate the conference experience. Buddies are not responsible for providing accessibility accommodations, personal assistance, transportation, or resolving serious concerns. Participants requiring formal support, including accessibility accommodations or assistance, should contact ArcticNet staff directly.
Participants can make a report on the LOOP app and/or visit the Inclusive Kind desk to make a confidential report of a breach in the Code of Conduct.
