The Atlantic Universities Geoscience Conference 2023

Welcome

Welcome to the 73rd Atlantic Universities Geoscience Conference at Memorial University October 19-21

The Atlantic Universities Geoscience Conference (AUGC) is the oldest geology conference in Canada, with the exception of the Geologic Association of Canada. Every year the AUGC hosts a conference where undergraduate students have the opportunity to present their current work, learn about local geology, meet members of the Atlantic geologic community and enjoy the company of like-minded students.

AUGC Constitution and Prizes

Attached here is the AUGC constitution. This document details important information on the conference that may be helpful.

Article III lists Acadia, Memorial, Dalhousie, St. FX, UNB, and St. Mary's University as AUGC Member institutions

Article V states that the host society (mainland) will sponsor 6 delegates from Memorial University and 3 delegates from the other mainland Article III institutions. This sponsorship is in the form of subsidized meals, accommodations, and transportation to and from the conference. The individual institutions (i.e., NOT the host) are responsible for booking transportation etc. and will be reimbursed after submitting an expense claim with the host University. When Memorial University is the host they will sponsor 3 delegates from each of the mainland Article III members. The maximum amount for this sponsorship will be calculated based on the cost of transportation, accommodation, registration, and meals for 3 attendees. Each mainland society can spend up to that amount, and will be reimbursed upon providing receipts to the host society. Each mainland society also commits to sponsoring 3 attendees from their institution for conferences hosted at Memorial University.

Appendix A lists information on prizes and awards presented at AUGC. These awards consist of a monetary prize and often a plaque that will reside at the student's university until the 2023 AUGC. The named awards are:

The Science Atlantic Best Paper Award given for the best overall student paper on any geoscience topic ($600)

Imperial Oil Best Poster Award given to a student presenting the best overall poster on any topic ($250)
