Bethune Round Table 2026

October 14-18, 2026

Bethune Round Table 2026 brings the global surgery community to Georgetown, Guyana, at a period of unprecedented health system investment and reform. Over several days, participants will explore how collaboration and training are central to meaningful transformation - through equitable global partnerships, locally led innovation, and concrete strategies to expand access to safe surgery in low‑resource settings.

Our conference location

Set in a country with one of the world’s fastest‑growing economies and an ambitious agenda for health sector modernization, this hybrid meeting offers a rare opportunity to learn, co‑create, and build partnerships that you can carry back to your own context.

See health system transformation up close

Guyana is rapidly scaling new hospitals, telemedicine, and digital health infrastructure while training a new generation of health workers. BRT 2026 lets you learn within a health system actively re‑designing how surgical care is delivered nationwide.

Turn training into impact

The 2026 theme, “From training to transformation: Advancing surgical care through global partnerships and local innovation,” focuses on moving beyond one‑off courses to approaches that change how care is delivered and sustained. Sessions will showcase concrete examples of education, mentorship, and twinning programs that have led to measurable improvements in services and equity.

Immerse yourself in interdisciplinary problem‑solving

BRT brings together surgeons, anesthesiologists, obstetricians, nurses, trainees, public health practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and digital health innovators around a shared goal: expanding safe surgical care for underserved populations. You will engage in plenaries, workshops, and informal discussions that address clinical, policy, workforce, financing, and technology dimensions of surgical systems.

Build partnerships that last

The meeting format prioritizes time for networking, co‑design workshops, and both South-South and North-South exchanges. You will have space to form collaborations that continue after the conference, rather than collecting one‑off contacts.

Bring home solutions for your own setting

Whether you work in a tertiary center, a district hospital, academia, or a ministry of health, you will encounter practical examples of training models, service redesign, and innovations that can be adapted to your local reality. Participants are encouraged to share their own challenges and successes, creating a two‑way learning environment.

Join a global surgery community

Since its beginnings, the Bethune Round Table has been dedicated to improving surgical care for marginalized and underserved populations worldwide. Hosting BRT 2026 in Guyana continues this commitment by centering voices and innovations from settings where surgical needs and opportunities are most urgent.
