In our current age of climate change, habitat destruction, social injustice, and political disinformation, it is vital to recognize that connection is resilience. Our ability to adapt, recover, and innovate in the face of challenges depends on how we work together as citizens and scientists of all disciplines. Embracing this perspective, CAG/CARTO 2026 has selected Resilience as our theme.
Join the Canadian Association of Geographers-CAG / Association Canadienne des Géographes-ACG and the Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives-ACMLA / Association des Cartothèques et Archives Cartographiques du Canada-ACACC on Lək̓ʷəŋən territory, also known as Victoria BC, on June 1-4, 2026 as we work together to wrestle with these issues, offer solutions, and take action.

Canadian Geographies / Géographies canadiennes Lecture - Envisioning Well Being with the Earth
Indigenous leadership is at the heart of the transformative and systemic change that the current climate crisis demands. Indigenous peoples in Canada have experience, knowledge, and perspectives to inform pathways to a transformed Canada that is just and sustainable. Indigenous knowledges, languages, legal traditions, and values can and should inform this broader process of transformation and can make contributions to broader science, policy, and governance innovations.
Indigenous planetary well being paradigms requires imaging a different relationship with the natural world that can contribute to well being with the Earth. I will speak to principles of living well based on Anishinaabe storytelling traditions and speak to how we as humans can learn to live well with the Earth.
Deborah McGregor, Anishinabe, Whitefish River First Nation, Professor, Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Indigenous Planetary Well Being, University of Calgary. Dr.McGregor’s research has focused on Indigenous knowledge systems in diverse contexts including environmental and water governance, environmental and climate justice, health and Anishinaabe legal traditions. She remains actively involved in a variety of First Nation initiatives, continuing to serve as an advisor and engaging in community-based research and initiatives.

Indigenous Art Exhibition
Being: Grounding in Right Relations is an exhibition exploring Indigenous cultural and environmental resilience as a living practice—rooted in Indigenous teachings, expressed through and sustained through relational ways of being with Pacific coastal lands, waters, and one another and tempered in critical resistance. It centers shared responsibility, Indigenous resurgence, and the ongoing creation of futures, featuring work by Myrna Crossley (lək̓ʷəŋən, Coast Salish), Cease Wyss (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh/Sto:Lo/Hawaiian/Swiss), Rande Cook (Kwakwaka’wakw), and Jordan Hill (T'Sou-ke, Coast Salish).
The Local Organizing Committee of the 2026 CAG/CARTO conference is supporting this exhibition curated by Natalie Rollins (Cree, Irish, English, Scottish) in conjunction with academic activities.
Graduate Student Lounge and Event
Need to take a break, work on a paper, answer an email, or join a zoom call? The Halpern Centre for Graduate Students boardroom is reserved June 1,2*, 3 & 4 for your use! The space is divided with a smaller side for private meetings and a larger meeting room for quiet work, relaxation, and low-sensory respite. Note: on June 2, the space will be unavailable from 11:30-2 pm.
Enjoy catered appetizers while networking at the licensed Grad House Restaurant! The UVic Graduate Students' Society, Geography Graduate Students' Society, and CAG invite student attendees to a social event on Wednesday, June 3, from 5-7 pm at the Grad House Restaurant. Please RSVP your attendance as space is limited.

Who Shapes Geography? A Survey from CAG on Decolonizing and Indigenizing Geography
The CAG Decolonizing and Indigenizing Committee (D&I) would like to hear from you! Please fill out the survey to help the committee identify barriers to participation in CAG events, publications, and conferences. The results will help guide the committee and CAG in making meaningful changes to better support the work of Indigenous scholars and those working in the fields of anticolonial and decolonial research.

Head to the Michel Pujol Room, Student Union Building, during the lunch break. There will be a volunteer there to help you.
Lunch will be held on the 2nd floor of the Cove on June 2 and 4. The Cove is inside the building next to Sngequ House. Pease see the map. Lunch on June 3 will be a catered food truck event (use your green food ticket!)

If you are staying on campus, we would like you to please return to your accommodation to retrieve your ticket. If you have alternative accommodation, we will provide you with another ticket at the registration/information desk. We will be collecting your information when we do this.
The closest options are Starbucks (by UVic Bookstore) and Munchie Bar (Student Union Building). See map.
There are many great restaurants in Victoria! Some include: Smuggler's Cove Pub (walking distance), Spinnakers Brew Pub, Boom + Batten, 10 Acres Bistro, Tacofino, and 5th Street Bar and Grill.
