Our Keynote Speaker Dr. Anna Drexler will present:
"A world free of vector-borne diseases: accelerating innovation for mosquito control"

Dr Anna Drexler, US Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Division of Vector-borne Diseases. Dr Drexler serves as a Medical Entomologist on the Arboviral Diseases Branch Entomology and Ecology Team, where she works to prevent, detect and respond to emerging vector-borne diseases. She began her public health entomology career with the World Health Organization (WHO) Pesticide Evaluation Scheme, evaluating the efficacy, safety and quality of pesticides used for public health. Later, as the Technical Officer lead for the WHO Vector Control Advisory Group, she worked to develop global policies, standards and practices for new vector control technologies. Dr Drexler’s experience, including responding to dengue and Zika virus outbreaks, led her to work for the WHO Health Emergencies Programme in the Western Pacific Region as a Technical Officer in Manila, Philippines. She also served as the Coordinating Editor for WPSAR journal and led a program to build capacity in information sharing in health emergencies. Anna has spent six months out of the last year on the COVID-19 Incident Management Team for the Western Pacific Region, including as team lead for Science and Research. She received her doctorate from University of California, Davis and a Master’s of Science from San Francisco State University. In her free time, she enjoys walks in the mountains, the public library, and - in non-pandemic times – traveling the world with her husband and two children.
