Dr. Amira Abdelrasoul, P. Eng., is an Associate Professor in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department and Division of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. She is the Principal Investigator (PI) of Membrane Science and Nanotechnology Research Center at University of Saskatchewan. Her interdisciplinary research program focus on solving the existing hemodialysis systems problems to decrease the unacceptably high morbidity and mortality rates, increase the quality of life of kidney failure patients, and decrease the extremely high costs to the healthcare system in Canada and beyond.

Prior joining the University of Saskatchewan in 2017, she was a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Abdelarsoul received her Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering in 2015 from Ryerson University with the Governor General Academic Gold Medal and the C. Ravi Ravindran Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award.

Some of her many notable achievements are in the academic sphere. Her scholarly excellence has been recognized by 4 scholarships and 25 academic awards from North American institutions, including the Norman Esch Innovation and Entrepreneurship awards and American Membrane Technology Award. Dr. Abdelrasoul also holds a strong record of high-impact scholarly publications. Her work has not only solved existing industrial and environmental concerns, but also paved the way for water sustainability engineering solutions. Her ongoing research contributions make her an outstanding model of professionalism and educational excellence within the engineering community. In addition, Dr. Abdelrasoul is a licensed Instructional Skills & Educational Development Facilitator, and a Fellow of the Staff and Educational Development Association. She has spearheaded the pedagogical research initiatives and she received The 2021 Deans’ Remote Teaching Award for her sustained commitment to teaching excellence, innovation and leadership in Engineering Education.

Dr. Abdelrasoul’s current projects focus on Advanced Membrane Science and Nanotechnology for Hemodialysis, Energy and Water Sustainability and Biomedical Applications; Nanomaterials for Advanced Technologies; and Process Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Complex Systems.
