Student Mental Health : Knowledge to Inspire Action
The Observatory on Student Mental Health in Higher Education (OSMEES) will hold its first international scientific conference on student mental health on June 29 and 30, 2027, on the stunning main campus of the University of Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada).
Located in the Eastern Townships, a vibrant region of the province of Quebec, Sherbrooke has everything to charm you, whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a foodie, or someone seeking tranquility.
To celebrate the fifht anniversary of OSMEES—which has completed or is currently conducting more than 50 research projects—this conference provides an opportunity to bring together the local and international scientific community to discuss scientific knowledge related to student mental health.
This conference aims to highlight scientific knowledge on student mental health that provides a better understanding of both the challenges faced by students and the practices used to address these challenges, from promotion to targeted intervention.

Call for submissions
Without being limited to these topics, the conference will explore potential answers to the following current questions:
What are the promising and evidence-based practices for promoting student mental health using an ecosystemic approach?
How can we contribute to a cultural change to create environments that support student mental health?
How can we maximize the impact of initiatives intended to promote student mental health?
How can we integrate mental health promotion and the development of social-emotional competencies into academic programs?
How can we adapt initiatives and services to the diversity of the student community?
How can we better involve students using a “for, by, and with” approach?
We are accepting abstract submissions until September 19, 2026. We welcome submissions that go beyond the traditional framework! The University of Sherbrooke’s main campus offers a welcoming space for creative proposals (green spaces that promote connection with nature, sports and arts facilities, etc.).
Conference Objectives
The conference program will feature a variety of research projects that address the following objectives:
Improve understanding of student mental health and its determinants;
Identify promising practices (e.g., programs, initiatives, measures, services, etc.) that aim to create environments that are beneficial to student mental health;
Identify promising practices (e.g., programs, initiatives, measures, services, etc.) that aim to directly support students;
Identify strategies to promote student involvement in student mental health research projects;
Identify strategies to promote the use of scientific knowledge on student mental health by various stakeholders in higher education and contribute to a cultural change.

Please note that there is a registration fee for this conference. Participants whose papers are accepted will be responsible for covering the costs of their stay in Canada and their registration. Rates will be announced in the fall of 2026.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to participate exclusively as a presenter. If your presentation is accepted, you will receive a confirmation request via email, and a link to confirm your registration will also be sent to you.

You are responsible for covering your own travel and accommodation expenses. To help you plan your research trip to Sherbrooke, a Participation Guide will be sent to you several weeks before the event.
The program will offer activities in English and French. You can then choose which presentations and conferences you would like to attend.
This event is open to all researchers, professors and students who are interested in student mental health.
