Welcome to the 4th Annual Fall Conference: Current Perspectives on the History of Guns and Society
The Center for the Study of Guns & Society is pleased to announce its 4th annual fall conference at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. Historians, museum professionals, legal scholars, public health experts, as well as public historians and other experts in the field, will come together to explore topics in the social and cultural history of firearms and ballistics.
Check-in opens at 11am on Friday, and the conference concludes at 6pm on Saturday.

All are welcome to a special musical performance on Friday, October 5, 5-6 pm of The Bill of Rights: Ten Amendments in Eight Motets (Crowell Concert Hall), set to music by John Spencer Camp Professor of Music Neely Bruce, which will be performed by Festival Harmony, members of Alchemy, and assisting instrumentalists conducted by the composer. FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Doors open at 4:30 pm.

The conference will be held on the campus of Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. All sessions will take place in Fayerweather, Beckham Hall, 55 Wyllys Avenue, Middletown.
On Friday, conference guests may park along High Street, Mount Vernon Road, and Washington Terrace where permitted. The closest visitor lot is 65 Vine Street. On Saturday, parking is available at 70 Wyllys Avenue, across the street from the conference location. Do not park in spaces reserved for Admissions. Click here for a campus map.
Sheraton Hartford South in Rocky Hill and Hilton Garden Inn in Wallingford have accommodations as of 9/24/25. We strongly recommend you book a room ASAP as The Hartford Marathon is on October 11 and area hotels fill up. If you need assistance finding accommodation, contact Deidre Goodrich at dgoodrich@wesleyan.edu.
The conference is for invited scholars and professionals and members of the Wesleyan community (faculty, staff, students, and alumni).
Guests are required to register in advance. Members of the Wesleyan community (faculty, staff, students, and alumni) may register day-of if space allows.
