Improving Functional Capacity using Evidence-based Exercise Programs for Seniors
The Simone and Edouard Schouela Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Senior Health (Schouela CEDurable) of the McGill Integrated University Health and Social Services Network (RUISSS), based at the Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre (CIUSSS) of West-Central Montreal, is pleased to invite you to on November 6th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with both in-person and virtual (only attendance options.
On this occasion, Dr. Debra Waters will present on “Improving Functional Capacity using Evidence-based Exercise Programs for Seniors” from 4pm to 5pm at the Aberman Family Auditorium A-102, Jewish General Hospital. She will highlight how tailored exercise interventions can enhance mobility, independence, and quality of life in older adults. Her presentation will be followed by a cocktail from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Geriatric Clinic of the Jewish General Hospital, room ES1100.To participate, please register as soon as possible, as spots are limited.

Dr. Debra Waters
Dr. Debra Waters is a Research Professor at the University of Otago, Dunedin New Zealand where she was the inaugural Director of Gerontology Research and Co-Director of the Otago Falls Network (Tū Ora). She is also a Research Professor at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she is a co-investigator on a Zuni pueblo falls prevention trial and co-investigator on the ICOPE_NM project. She serves on the Intrinsic Capacity Frailty and Sarcopenia (ICFSR) task force and is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Nutrition Health and Aging, Journal of Frailty and Aging, Australasian Journal on Ageing, and Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics. Her research has focused on the assessment and treatment of older adults with sarcopenia and frailty, and community interventions to prevent falls. Including work with indigenous communities in New Zealand and New Mexico on developing and delivering culturally appropriate falls prevention programs.
The DuraGyms
The Geriatric Clinic of the Jewish General Hospital is the first facility to implement the DuraGyms. This space is designed for older adults to engage in physical activity under the supervision of a kinesiologist.
