Online PreVenture Training September 21-22, 2021


PreVenture is an evidence-based prevention program that uses personality targeted interventions to promote mental health and delay substance use among teens. As a strengths-based program, PreVenture workshops are designed to help students learn useful coping skills, set long term goals and channel their personality towards achieving them.

Sign up to become a Certified PreVenture Facilitator and bring this evidence-based prevention program to the youth in your community.

Training includes a 2-hour video presentation on the “Science Behind PreVenture” as well as 1.5 days of training including a hands-on practical experience delivering the program. Learn how to guide youth through workshops designed to help them understand how their personality impacts their life and assist them with learning adaptive coping skills to help them make better choices for themselves.

Agenda for training:

Video Presentation - The Science Behind PreVenture

Prior to Day 1 of training, you will receive a link to view a *2-hour video presentation on the “The Science Behind PreVenture”. Dr. Patricia Conrod, the developer of the PreVenture program will take you through the evidence base and theoretical approach behind the development of the program covering such topics as:

  • What can we do to prevent substance misuse?
  • What is PreVenture targeting and measuring?
  • What are the results of PreVenture?

*Viewing this presentation is a prerequisite to attending Day 1 and Day 2 of training.

Day 1: September 21, 2021 - 12h30pm to 5pm EST - Overview of PreVenture

Two 15-to-20-minute breaks to be determined day of

  • Introductions
  • Q&A session on the "Science Behind PreVenture" video
  • Introduction to PreVenture
  • Overview of the Program with a look at its structure and logistics
  • Consent, Confidentiality and Risk Management

Day 2: September 22, 2021 - 10am to 5pm EST – Clinical Review of PreVenture and Practical Training

Two 15-to-20-minute breaks and a 1-hour lunch break

  • Clinical Review of PreVenture - counselling skills refresher, motivational interviewing and CBT model as they relate to PreVenture
  • Workshop Practice

Optional online introductory course

* If you have no previous knowledge of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches and no previous knowledge re counselling skills, we offer an online introductory course that can be completed prior to the training event. This basic introductory level course provides an overview of basic counselling skills, CBT and MI. It can be completed in an hour and a half and serves as an excellent compliment to the training.
