IS&T Electronic Imaging Symposium 2027

January 24-27, 2027

The Full Imaging Stack, Under One Roof

Every camera, every screen, every AI system that sees - they all rest on imaging science. The IS&T Electronic Imaging (EI) Symposium is where that science and design is made. Not just one slice of it: the whole arc, from the physics of light capture through image processing, display, and human perception, to the machine intelligence that increasingly interprets the images we create.

EI is the only major symposium that treats the entire imaging chain as a single, coherent discipline. What you find here - researchers working on optics at the same table as AI engineers, perceptual scientists in conversation with display technologists, the intersection of academia and industry - simply does not exist anywhere else at this scale.

The symposium brings together multiple focused technical conferences under one program. Attend one or attend all. Either way, you will encounter work and people that expand what you thought your field was.

EI is organized by IS&T, the Society for Imaging Science and Technology, a non-profit professional community dedicated to advancing imaging in all its forms since 1947.

The Full Imaging Stack

Optics and sensors. Processing and compression. Display and rendering. Human perception. Machine understanding. No other venue covers the complete arc — and nothing is lost in translation between layers.

Industry-Academia Integration

Most academic conferences tolerate industry; most industry events ignore research. EI genuinely integrates both as equal partners — shared sessions, a joint demonstration floor, and an audience that spans product teams and university lab.

Open Access, Forever

Every EI paper is freely downloadable in perpetuity. No paywalls, no membership required, no expiry date. Your work reaches the widest possible audience from the moment it is published.

Human Perception as a Core Lens

EI's grounding in human visual science — through the HVEI track and across the whole program — gives it a perspective that purely machine-centric venues lack, and that AI researchers increasingly need.

Genuine Community at Human Scale

EI is large enough to matter and small enough to actually talk to people. You can have lunch with a speaker, find collaborators across sub-fields, and leave with relationships that change your research direction.
