FORCE2026
Join us for FORCE2026, where researchers, publishers, librarians, developers, funders, and other stakeholders come together to discuss challenges and opportunities in the evolving landscape of scholarly communication.
Building on the success of previous FORCE11 conferences, the 2026 edition will focus on fostering collaboration and inclusive approaches. The theme “To Go Far, Go Together” emphasizes the importance of partnership and cooperation across disciplines, technologies, and geopolitical boundaries in addressing the complex challenges and disruptions facing scholarly communication today. As technological disruption reshapes research practices and global political shifts influence knowledge exchange, our collective wisdom becomes more essential than ever.

Frequently Asked Questions - Getting around SMU and Singapore
Singapore is well-connected and easy to navigate. You may choose to commute via the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) or a bus.
Public Transport
MRT & Bus: Google Maps is useful for planning routes and getting to your destination with ease.
Paying for Public Transport: You can pay via Contactless Bank Card & Mobile Wallet, Singapore Tourist Pass (STP) or Adult Stored-Value Smartcard (EZ-Link / NETS Flashpay)
Taxis & Ride-Hailing
Taxis: Taxis can be flagged down on the street or at designated taxi stands. Do note that fares are metered and surcharges may apply depending on the time of day, route, and service type.
Ride-Hailing Apps: Ride-hailing apps let you book a ride from any pick-up point. As prices vary across platforms, it is worth comparing before you book. Popular options include Grab, GoJek, Ryde, Tada, and CDG Zig.
Free Public Wi-Fi: Singapore offers a widespread free public network called Wireless@SG, available in shopping malls, transport hubs, and other public spaces. Simply select the network on your device to connect. Do note that public Wi-Fi may be subject to time limits and standard security considerations.
Local SIM Cards: For reliable high-speed coverage on the go, prepaid tourist eSIM/SIM cards are widely available from Singapore's major telcos — Singtel, StarHub, and M1 — as well as at 7-Eleven convenience stores around the city. These cards are designed for short-term visitors and are an affordable way to stay connected throughout your trip.
Contactless & Digital Payments: Most shops, restaurants, and public transport accept contactless cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and digital wallets including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and GrabPay. Alipay and WeChat Pay are also accepted in some establishments.
Cash: Hawker centres and smaller local businesses may not accept digital payments, so it is advisable to carry some Singapore dollars as a backup.

Singapore is warm and humid year-round, with temperatures typically ranging between 25°C and 33°C (77°F - 91°F). Rain showers can occur at any time, so we recommend carrying a light jacket and a compact umbrella. Comfortable, breathable clothing is advisable for getting around the city.
Visa requirements vary by nationality. We recommend checking with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore or your nearest Singapore embassy before travelling. Many nationalities enjoy visa-free entry for short stays.
