    Kids Learn About Asia: Bridge Across Time, Culture, and Seasons - Nitobe Garden

    Explore the magic of Nitobe Memorial Garden, the Asian Library, and the Chung Lind Gallery by connecting to Asian culture through activities and adventures at all sites. At the Nitobe Memorial Garden, take in the peaceful sights, sounds and smells while connecting with nature, completing a hands-on activity, and learning about cultures from around the world. Afterwards, head over to the Asian Library and Chung Lind Gallery for more fun, games and crafts. Please note: Nitobe Garden may have some pathways that are irregularly graded and topped with wood chips or loose gravel. This may limit accessibility in some parts of the garden, but garden staff will be onsite that day to assist. Capacity: 50

    Rock Histories and Mineral Mysteries (Ages 5-12)

    Come solve mineral mysteries and learn about the history of our collection at the Pacific Museum of Earth! Along with our usual free admission and interactive gallery activities, the PME will be hosting a booth for visitors to get hands-on with historic artifacts and some of our favourite museum specimens. Visitors are invited to use custom-made thin-section viewers to look at the finer details, explore histories of rocks and minerals in BC and beyond, and try out a custom scavenger hunt for a prize. Suggested Age Range: 5-12 years old.

    Bridge Across Time, Culture and Seasons in Asia - Chung | Lind Gallery

    Explore the magic of the Nitobe Memorial Garden, the Asian Library, and the Chung | Lind Gallery by connecting to Asian culture through activities and adventures at all sites. At the Chung | Lind Gallery, experience two unique collections of historical materials, including photographs, rare books, journals, diaries, maps, posters and more focus on intersecting themes of immigration, transportation networks, settler-colonialism, and resource extraction, each of which played an important role in shaping the history of British Columbia and Canada. The Chinese Canadian Museum and the Chung | Lind Gallery invite kids and families to enjoy the Gallery space through a scavenger hunt, activity books, and kids-focused tours. Artist Stella Zheng will also host a facilitated art workshop for participants.

    Upcycling is a great way to give life to your old clothing! This event is hands-on, encouraging kids to learn how to make old clothes into something new - fabrics will also be on hand to create with. Any old t-shirt or similar fabrics can be cut up to begin their second life as weavings or rope! Visitors can expect to access simple weaving frames, upcycling materials and on-site demonstrations. This event will focus on how to create a small project that participants can take home or contribute to our growing community-made rope! Her banners show the relationships with land and communities in Secwepemcúĺecw— the skies and the effects of wildfires and climate change along with text about memories carried by the land and the medicine and wellness it has to offer. After the tour, kids will pick up a take-home art kit with all the materials to create their own mini-banner about their memories and imaginations of life in the city, country and other places!     This hilarious show blends musical numbers with fast paced ventriloquism comedy bits, with Magrau the bird and Kamilla the frog! After a brief musical warm-up with Kellie, the audience meets Magrau the bird, who is a little hungry and full of surprises. He and Kellie take a series of comic detours - like a mangled rendition of the Itsy-Bitsy Spider song to a cupcake caper. Next, we meet Kamilla the frog, a precocious four year-old frog with red hair. Themes like ‘being yourself’ and ‘never giving up’ are highlighted in this colourful and funny show. Capacity: 350

    Explore DIY musical instruments at the Chan Centre! Participants will have the help of student volunteers to work at their own pace to make paper plate tambourines or wearable percussion. Crafts are available on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out. Each craft takes approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. Capacity: 45 at any given time (1 accompanying parent allowed per child; parents not actively participating are not counted toward the 45).
