Conference Overview

Monday, September 30 - Tuesday, October 1, 2024 (2 days):

Tony Appelo and David Parkhurst, the founders of PHREEQC, will be keynote speakers.

Geochemical modeling is an important tool for understanding the fate and transport of weathering products, contaminants, and nutrients in the environment. Geochemical models are widely used in environmental and water resources applications. Examples include assessing the speciation and mobility of toxic metals in acid rock/mine drainage systems, understanding and predicting the attenuation of contaminant plumes in groundwater, and evaluating geochemical processes affecting the development and sustainability of groundwater supplies for agricultural and domestic use.

Although this conference and the course emphasize the PHREEQC family of codes, in keeping with the broad community interest and application of geochemical and reactive transport modeling, we encourage attendance and presentations from users of other transport simulators including but not limited to: PHT3D, PHT-USG, PHAST, MT3D-USGS, STOMP, muFlowReacT, FEHM, FRACTRAN, HST3D, Modflow-Surfact, RT3D, SEAM3D, Tough2VOC/TMVOC, UTCHEM, and Geochemist’s Workbench.

This inaugural conference will focus on the latest developments in geochemical modeling, from computational tools to environmental applications. The conference solicits abstracts on all aspects of geochemical modeling, including those addressing:

Conference Abstract Submissions

Abstracts are due by Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:59pm Eastern Time and must be submitted in sentence form and without bullet points. At least one author from an accepted submission is expected to register for the conference. Speakers must be registered for the conference by July 19, 2024 to secure a speaker’s spot.

Abstracts should be limited to 300 words or less.
