Trauma-Sensitive Empowering Interventions
This workshop was developed in response to the demand from BC communities to better support patient empowerment and thereby improve provider job satisfaction and meaning in work. It teaches efficient, effective tools to foster healing and participation in patients living with chronic pain, addictions, mood disorders, and/or disease. It is especially useful for enabling renegotiation from trauma, and integrates features of health coaching, motivational interviewing, somatic experiencing, cognitive behavioural therapy and positive psychology. This workshop is suitable for both family physicians & specialists. The tools can be applied in both office and hospital settings.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Recognize the fundamental spirit of Motivational Interviewing, Health Coaching, Positive Psychology, & Somatic Experiencing
- Implement the principles, skills and tools that promote patient self-management in patients dealing with chronic conditions (including diseases, moods, pain, addictions & trauma)
- Comprehend the basic science and physiology behind using these approaches.
About the Facilitator
Rahul lives and works on the unceded and ancestral land of the Shishalh and Squamish peoples, also known as the Sunshine Coast. He works as an integrative medical physician, professional coach, and mindfulness instructor. He is a Certified MBSR Teacher through the Center for Mindfulness and facilitates mindfulness-based interventions for both providers and patients. He also is a Somatic Experiencing (SE) Practitioner and integrates trauma-sensitive approaches into all of his trainings. He has over 18 years of experience being an ICF- Certified Professional Coach, supporting individuals and healthcare teams in cultivating compassionate self & situational awareness.
