49th IARLD Conference
The 49th Annual IARLD Conference will be hosted by the University of Cologne in Cologne, Germany, from July 21-23, 2027.
Located in the heart of Western Europe, Cologne is one of Germany's oldest cities and home to the University of Cologne, one of Europe's leading research-intensive universities.
The conference seeks to highlight empirical research, theoretical contributions, and applied practices that enhance our understanding of learning disabilities across the lifespan and in diverse educational and social contexts.

Plan Your Trip
Information on accommodation in Cologne, a block of rooms at conference rates and suggestions for your stay will be added here as soon as arrangements are finalised.
Registration opens on April 26, 2027 with an early bird rate and continues at the regular rate from May 24, 2027. Registration closes on July 14, 2027; there is no on-site registration.
Fees will be announced here before registration opens. They cover conference materials, lunches and coffee breaks. The conference dinner is booked separately during registration.
Directions to the Event
The conference will take place at the Seminargebäude (Building 106) of the University of Cologne, Universitätsstraße 37, 50931 Cologne, Germany. Sessions are held in room 0.04 and seminar room S 01. For GPS navigation, please enter "Universitätsstraße 37, 50931 Köln".
By public transport
Cologne's tram network (KVB) is the fastest way to campus. The nearest stop is called Universität (the university stop), served by tram line 9; from there it is a five-minute walk along Universitätsstraße to Building 106.
From Köln Hauptbahnhof (central station): tram 16 or 18 to Neumarkt, then tram 9 towards Sülz to Universität. About 20 minutes. Trams show their final destination on the front, so look for Sülz.
From Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN): train S19 or RB27 to Köln Messe/Deutz station, then tram 9 towards Sülz to Universität. About 35 minutes.
From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS): train to Köln Hauptbahnhof, then as above. About one hour.
From Frankfurt Airport (FRA): ICE to Köln Hauptbahnhof, then as above. About 1 hour 30 minutes.
Tickets are available from the machines at every stop and in the KVB app.
By taxi or ride-hailing
Taxi ranks are located outside Köln Hauptbahnhof and both airports. Uber, Bolt and FreeNow operate throughout Cologne. A taxi from the central station to campus takes about 15 minutes, and from Cologne Bonn Airport about 30 minutes.
By car
Parking around the campus is very limited. We recommend travelling by public transport.
Accessibility
The Seminargebäude is step-free: it has a lift and doors with push-button openers. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please contact the conference office at IARLD-2027@uni-koeln.de and we will make arrangements.
Board Meeting — Tuesday, 20 July 2027
If you are attending the IARLD Board Meeting on Tuesday, July 20, 2027, we will meet at Haus Schwan in Cologne-Lindenthal. Haus Schwan is a traditional Cologne restaurant located at Dürener Straße 235, 50931 Cologne, close to the University of Cologne. After the meeting, we will stay there for dinner together.
