The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and the same enthusiasm for science that was evident in Michael. The recipient, selected each year by the IIDR Executive Committee, receives a monetary award and is invited to present a talk on their research at Trainee Day. Applicants are required to submit a one-page extended abstract* of their research project, a CV, and a transcript. Students who wish to be considered for this award must apply before Friday, September 25th, 2026 at 11:59 pm using the registration form.

The Lori Burrows Scholarship in Antibiotic Resistance has been established in recognition of Dr. Lori Burrows’ outstanding research contributions in the field of antibiotic resistance over her 20-year tenure at McMaster University, as well as her leadership as Associate Director of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR).

To honour her legacy and celebrate her achievements and career at McMaster, we are pleased to launch this scholarship this year.

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student who has made a significant contribution to antibiotic resistance research. The selected recipient will receive a monetary award and will also be invited to present their research at Trainee Day.

Applicants are required to submit a one-page extended abstract* of their research project and a CV. Students who wish to be considered for this award must apply before Friday, September 25th, 2026 at 11:59 pm using the registration form.

The recipients, selected each year by the IIDR Executive Committee, receive a monetary award and are invited to present a talk on their research at Trainee Day.

The Michael Kiley Scholarship in Antibiotic Resistance was established in 2017 by the family and friends of the late Michael Kiley - an Ontario man who lost his battle to a drug-resistant superbug in 2011. This year, the Kiley Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student (either MSc or PhD) who has made a significant contribution to antibiotic research.

Supported by the Michael Kiley Classic, the Kiley family, Stoked Bio, and the IIDR, the selected recipient will receive a monetary award and will be invited to present their research at Trainee Day. 

Applicants are required to submit a one-page extended abstract* of their research project and a CV. Students who wish to be considered for this award must apply before Friday, September 25th, 2026 at 11:59 pm using the registration form.

Established in 2009 by the estate of Mildred Kathleen Hodgson, the Mildred Gulliver Scholarship is awarded to one IIDR graduate student (either MSc or PhD) in recognition of their significant contribution to anti-infective research.

This year, six IIDR trainees will be chosen to give oral presentations based on the highest-scored abstracts. Judges will select the winner of the Mildred Gulliver Graduate Scholarship from the group of trainees presenting talks at this year’s event. Students who wish to present must submit a 300-word abstract before Friday, September 25th, 2026 at 11:59 PM using the registration form.

This recently established award is presented to one IIDR Postdoctoral or MD Fellow whose research, published or unpublished, has made a significant contribution to the field of infectious disease research over the past year.

The successful candidate, selected by the IIDR Executive Committee, receives a monetary award and is invited to present their research at this year’s IIDR Trainee Research Day. Candidates must provide a one page extended abstract* of their research findings, its impact, and their role in the project. Applicants who wish to be considered for this award must apply before Friday, September 25th, 2026 at 11:59 PM using the registration form.

Established in 2009 by the estate of Mildred Katleen Hodgson, the Mildred Gulliver Postdoctoral Award is awarded to one Postdoctoral fellow affiliated with the IIDR in recognition of their contribution to anti-infective research.

A postdoctoral fellow, selected by the IIDR Executive Committee, will receive a monetary award and be invited to present their research at this year’s IIDR Trainee Research Day. Postdoctoral fellows must provide a one page extended abstract* of their research and its impact, along with their role in the project. Applicants who wish to be considered for this award must apply before Friday, September 25th, 2026 at 11:59 pm using the registration form.
