Training Opportunities at the INQ: Developing Key Skills for Your Northern Research Project

Speaker: Rachel Hussherr, biologist, freelance science communicator, research officer at UQTR, and head of the INQ training committee. What do we mean when we talk about conducting “good” scientific research in a northern context? What factors should be taken into account? What cross-cutting skills? Regardless of our field of expertise, scientific research in a northern context has unique characteristics that must be integrated into our academic approaches. Together, we will explore the training programs developed at the INQ to see how the team and its partners are continuously working to address these questions through interdisciplinary, inclusive training that complements your university curriculum.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Northern Research: Taking the Plunge

Speaker: Marie-France Gévry, Interdisciplinary Integration Advisor, Inter-Vice-Rectorate Team for Interdisciplinarity and Impact, Université Laval Abstract By combining knowledge, methods, and tools from different disciplines, interdisciplinarity offers a richer and more comprehensive perspective on the complex challenges facing our societies. It also helps push the boundaries of our knowledge. This participatory workshop aims to provide a better understanding of the principles, challenges, and benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as the essential conditions for a successful start. Through practical and reflective exercises focused on a northern issue, participants will initiate a process of interdisciplinary collaboration and highlight the key factors for a successful start. A discussion will also address the importance of interdisciplinarity in various professional contexts.
