Who can be selected to do a poster presentation?

There is no selection process. All summer students, Master's students, PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, interns in medicine and research personnel who submit an abstract will be eligible to present a poster.

Who can be selected to give a quick oral presentation?

Students selected for a 5-minutes talk will be chosen at random among the Master's and PhD students who selected this type of presentation and who were not chosen for a long oral presentation.

Who can be selected to give an oral presentation?

Master's and PhD students, interns in medicine and post-doctoral fellows selected for oral presentations will be chosen on the basis of well-defined selection criteria that you can find below. (If there are not at least two interns in medicine and two post-doctoral fellows who wish to make such presentations, there will be no oral presentation session for these groups).

Abstract selection criteria for oral presentations

* These criteria are to be adapted according to the program/field of study and the specific situation of each student.

1) We will allocate a number of oral presentations to each research area according to their respective number of candidate presenters.

2) We will prioritize abstracts that are well-structured, clear about the context and objectives, and that present language suitable for a conference.

3) We will prioritize students who did not present at the JSE in the previous year or last two years, to give all students a better chance to present.

4) We will prioritize students at the end of their studies (3+ years of graduate studies) in order to i) give students a chance to present at a conference before graduation; ii) ensure that the student has accumulated enough results to present a "story"; iii) favor presenters whose oral skills are more developed.

5) We will avoid allowing several students from the same laboratory to present in order to encourage the diversity of the themes addressed.

6) We will avoid selecting students working on common themes in order to promote the diversity of the themes addressed.
