McGill Annual Pathology Updates Course: A One-Day Comprehensive Review of Diagnostic Pathology

Course Learning Objectives:
By the end of the McGill Annual Pathology Updates Course, participants should be able to:

1. Apply current diagnostic criteria and classification systems across pathology subspecialties

   1. Identify and apply recent diagnostic advances and classification changes in major areas of pathology, including breast, thoracic, gastrointestinal/liver, dermatopathology, and hematopathology.

   2. Apply updated WHO classification criteria to the diagnosis and reporting of relevant pathologic entities.

   3. Assess the practical implications of classification updates for diagnostic practice and patient management.

2. Apply clinically relevant pathology knowledge to patient care

   1. Identify key morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features that influence diagnosis and patient management.

   2. Distinguish between entities with important clinical, therapeutic, or prognostic differences, including melanoma mimics and lymphoma subtypes.

   3. Integrate pathologic findings with relevant clinical information to support appropriate diagnostic interpretation..g. melanoma mimics, lymphoma subtypes)

3. Integrate emerging technologies into pathology practice

   1. Identify and evaluate appropriate applications of artificial intelligence in contemporary pathology practice.

   2. Apply molecular pathology techniques and biomarker testing to appropriate diagnostic scenarios.

   3. Integrate molecular and digital/AI-based tools into diagnostic workflows when clinically appropriate.

4. Improve diagnostic accuracy in challenging and evolving areas of pathology

   1. Differentiate melanocytic lesions from inflammatory and other diagnostic mimics using appropriate diagnostic criteria.

   2. Apply updated diagnostic criteria in endocrine and head & neck pathology.

   3. Recognize and classify diagnostically challenging genitourinary and hematologic malignancies using current classification systems.

This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the Canadian Association of Pathologists - Association canadienne des pathologistes.
