Welcome!

The program for the Northern Ontario Community Concierge and Connection Event will begin on Thursday, October 22 and continue on Friday, October 23.

The professional development program will take place at the Home2 Suites and will explore current questions related to physician recruitment and retention, including how learners and physicians compare opportunities, what helps people feel welcomed and supported, and how communities can strengthen recruitment, onboarding, and retention.

On Friday evening from 6pm to 9pm, the Northern Ontario Community Concierge and Connection Event will bring you together with NOSM U undergraduate medical learners and residents at the Valhalla Hotel and Conference Centre. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Introduce UME learners and residents to your community

  • Share information about placements, electives, locums, residency experiences, practice opportunities, and community life

  • Answer questions about relocation, support for partners and families, and the transition into practice in your community

  • Learn what residents and learners are considering as they make decisions about where to train and work

  • Connect with other physician recruiters and discuss common recruitment and retention priorities

The SRPC Mini Conference

Physician Recruiters may also register for the Third Annual SRPC Mini Rural and Remote Conference on October 24 and 25 at the Valhalla Hotel and Conference Centre.

The conference brings together people involved in rural and remote medicine for education, discussion, and networking. It provides another opportunity to meet physicians, residents, educators, and rural health partners from Northern Ontario and other parts of Canada.

Registration for the SRPC conference is separate.

Possible Connections With Other Health Programs

NOSM University is also exploring a separate opportunity for physician recruiters whose organizations recruit other health professionals to meet students from health programs at Lakehead University or Confederation College while representatives are in Thunder Bay.

The timing and format have not yet been confirmed. Information will be shared with participating physician recruiters if this opportunity moves forward.
