AI Ethics in Clinical Psychology: Supporting Ethical Decision-Making in Practice (Keynote Session)

Artificial intelligence is creating new possibilities for psychological practice, but it is also challenging psychologists to rethink how ethical principles apply in an increasingly digital clinical environment. This research-informed presentation explores ethical decision-making around the integration of AI into practice, using examples such as AI scribes and generative AI tools including ChatGPT. Rather than prescribing blanket rules for or against AI, the session introduces a practical framework for evaluating how different technologies affect clinical judgment, confidentiality, informed consent, documentation, and professional responsibility. Attendees will leave better equipped to make thoughtful, ethically defensible decisions about AI in their own practice.
