PreVenture’s Level 1 Facilitator Certification (low fidelity)
PreVenture is an evidence-based prevention program that uses personality focused behavioural interventions to promote mental health and delay substance use among youth. As a strengths-based program, PreVenture workshops are designed to help youth learn useful coping skills, set long term goals and channel their personality towards achieving them.
Sign up to become a Certified PreVenture Facilitator and bring this evidence-based prevention program to youth in your community.
PreVenture’s Level 1 Facilitator Certification (low fidelity)
Level 1 training certifies facilitators to deliver the PreVenture Program and includes a combination of self study and trainer-led activities.
Participants complete 2 to 4 hrs of online self study activities prior to attending 1.5 days of trainer-led activities (over Zoom) including a hands-on practical experience delivering PreVenture exercises. Participants learn how to guide youth through workshops designed to help them understand how their personality impacts their life and assist them with learning adaptive coping skills to help them achieve their goals.
In order to participate in this online training and receive PreVenture Certification, Participants must:
- Fully attend and complete the 1.5 days of training as well as any mandatory pre-course activities.
- Have working cameras and microphones on their devices.
- Participants are required and indeed, expected to participate in discussion and practicum throughout the training.
Individuals who will be working in an administrative/leadership capacity to implement PreVenture (i.e., leading planning efforts, managing individuals that might facilitate workshops, managing programs within which PreVenture might fall into etc…) are also invited to attend partial training for administrators. Partial training includes completing any mandatory pre-course activity and attending Day 1 (only) of training. Administrators will be given permissions to access program materials but will not be certified to deliver the program to youth.
**Please note, Certified Level 1 Facilitators are encouraged to pursue Level 2 Facilitator Certification (high fidelity) when they are ready to run workshops. This training protocol was followed in all PreVenture randomised controlled trials which resulted in significant reductions in substance use/misuse and mental health challenges. With Level 2 certification, facilitators will have the benefit of additional coaching and support from a certified trainer or supervisor/coach while running workshops. Facilitators can feel more confident in their ability to deliver the program with fidelity and achieve the desired outcomes. Contact preventure@ywho.ca for more information.
