SMBE Satellite Meeting on the Evolution of Fungal Pathogens
About the Meeting
Fungal pathogens impose great challenges in health care, agriculture or forestry. This meeting aims to bring together researchers studying clinical, agricultural, and environmental fungal pathogens to share their perspectives on how fungal pathogens evolve and how can they be controlled. Some of the questions we are asking are:
- How can we use the principles of evolution to extend the life-time of anti-fungal drugs and fungicides?
- Are there specific genomic signatures that make a fungus a pathogen?
- How can experimental evolution be used to measure the nature and rate of mutations that confer resistance and spread within populations?
- Can we use comparative genomics to identify better drug targets that would be more species specific?
