Nearby Attractions

Corpus Christi’s vibrant Marina District and bayfront location offer attendees exceptional opportunities to enjoy the coastal charm of the Texas Gulf Coast. Just steps from the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel, you can stroll along the scenic Bayfront Promenade, visit the iconic Selena Memorial Statue, and explore downtown shops and waterfront dining. A short drive provides access to world-class attractions including the Texas State Aquarium, the historic USS Lexington Museum, and beautiful beaches such as McGee Beach and North Beach. With mild winter temperatures typically in the 60s and 70s, late January is an ideal time to experience the area’s unique blend of culture, history, and outdoor recreation before or after conference sessions.

Marina & Bayfront Promenade

Located just steps from the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel, the Corpus Christi Marina and Bayfront Promenade offer a scenic waterfront escape perfect for relaxing walks, jogging, or simply soaking in the views. Stroll along the seawall, watch sailboats and ships in the harbor, enjoy public art installations, and take in stunning bay vistas. In late January, the mild Gulf Coast weather makes this a refreshing spot for sunrise or sunset strolls and casual people-watching.

Texas State Aquarium & USS Lexington

A short drive or trolley ride from the hotel takes you to two of Corpus Christi’s premier attractions: the Texas State Aquarium and the historic USS Lexington Museum. The Aquarium features immersive exhibits with sharks, sea turtles, and Gulf of Mexico marine life, while the “Blue Ghost” aircraft carrier offers self-guided tours of a legendary WWII vessel with flight decks, museums, and interactive experiences. Together, they provide an engaging mix of education, history, and family-friendly entertainment.

Beaches (e.g., McGee Beach)

Corpus Christi’s bayfront beaches offer easy access to coastal relaxation during the SWSS meeting. McGee Beach, right along the downtown seawall, features clean, manicured sand and calm waters ideal for walking, sunbathing, or picnicking. Just across the Harbor Bridge, North Beach provides a lively vibe with nearby restaurants and shops. For those seeking Gulf waves, popular options like Whitecap Beach or Mustang Island State Park are a short drive away—perfect for a refreshing winter beach day.

Silent Auction

Don't forget the Silent Auction at the SWSS Conference. Items will be displayed at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel to support the SWSS Endowment Foundation, which funds student scholarships and activities. Bring a donation of historical, artistic, or functional items to contribute, and be sure to bid generously on unique pieces like vintage agricultural artifacts, art, or hand-made items. Your participation directly supports the next generation of weed science professionals. Contact the SWSS Endowment Foundation President, Gary Schwarzlose, for more information.
