Mentor/Mentee program

This 2nd edition includes a parallel stream on capacity, training, and adoption, focused on people, practices, and communities of practice. Interested participants will be matched into structured mentor/mentee sessions during the workshop to share experience, identify needs, and strengthen community capacity around AI in the ocean domain.

Mentors and mentees will be paired ahead of the workshop and meet in structured sessions during the event, with the option to continue the connection afterward.

  • Mentors — experienced practitioners willing to share knowledge, feedback, or perspective with someone earlier in their journey. This could mean an AI/ML expert ready to guide ocean researchers applying AI for the first time, or an established ocean scientist who has navigated the path of adopting AI in their work and can help others do the same. You do not need to run a training program or teach formally - mentorship here is about generous, peer-to-peer exchange.

  • Mentees — anyone looking to grow their capacity in ocean-AI: researchers, students, data managers, or practitioners. You might be new to the field, navigating a specific technical or career challenge, or looking to build connections beyond your current network.

Some of the topics of interest we are looking to source mentors/mentees:

  • Hybrid physics - AI forecasting

  • Automated biodiversity monitoring

  • AI-augmented data quality control

  • Responsible AI and Indigenous data sovereignty

  • Building interdisciplinary AI capacity

There will be an opportunity to register for this program when you complete the registration form via the Registration page.
