MRU Faculty of Science and Technology Research Day 2022


Welcome to the 8th Annual FST Research Day!

This conference will be held virtually on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

General Information

On Research Day, students of the Faculty of Science and Technology will be showcasing research posters on projects ranging from literature reviews, course-based research to independent research projects in one of two sessions (morning: 10:00-12:00; afternoon: 15:30-17:30). The poster preparation guidelines can be found here.

  • Each poster session will be kicked off with concurrent topic sessions where students will be introducing their poster in 60 seconds. See event schedule.
  • Following the kickoff sessions, each student will join the video conference site linked to their respective posters that can be found in the virtual poster hall.
  • Each poster will have a unique video conference link that participants can join and leave at any time.

Registration is required to access the schedule, meeting links, and poster hall.

Dr. Mahadeo Sukhai

Dr. Mahadeo Sukhai is the world’s first congenitally blind biomedical research scientist. Mahadeo is Head of Research and Chief Accessibility and Inclusion Officer for the CNIB, having previously served as a research scientist at the University Health Network in Toronto. Dr. Sukhai's current research program relates to understanding social determinants of health and quality of life of Canadians with sight loss. Dr. Sukhai was the Principal Investigator for and co-author of "Creating a Culture of Accessibility in the Sciences," a book based on his groundbreaking work on access to science within higher education, published on accessiblecampus.ca. and served as the principal investigator for national projects to understand the student experience for persons with disabilities, and to examine the landscape of accessibility within Canadian post-secondary education.

The Keynote Talk is sponsored by the Faculty of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Science Students' Affiliation (ESSA), MRU Access and Inclusion Office, and the Office of Research, Scholarship, and Community Engagement (ORSCE).


Best Poster Award

A virtual awarding ceremony will be held at 6:30 PM to recognize poster award winners. The award categories are (1) 1000-2000 Level Course-Based Research, (2) 3000-5000 Level Course-Based Research, (3) Independent Project/Research, (4) Poster-only Presenter, and (5) Best Poster for Environmental Sustainability. The winners will receive a certificate and monetary award.

Research in Focus Competition

Submit a photo that represents your research on or before April 4, 2022. On Research Day, voting will be open for the Best Research Photo. All conference registrants are eligible to vote. Winners will be announced at the awarding ceremony.
