GABRIEL KROUK
Title of the presentation:
Nitrogen Signaling Interactions (NxPxROS) and a New Kind of GWAS.
Bibliography:
Gabriel Krouk holds an engineer degree in agriculture (from Agro-Sup Dijon [FR]), a PhD and an Habilitation from the University of Montpellier/SupAgro, France. He was trained in post-doc at NYU in the Coruzzi lab. Gabriel Krouk is a Research Director at CNRS in Montpellier (FR). His studies are at the crossroads of biology (mainly molecular physiology, functional genomics) and modelling. His research was first focused on the crosstalk between nutrient sensing and hormonal signaling in plants. His current work continues with the recent findings concerning the combinatorial effect of Nitrogen and Phosphorus signaling on plant development and molecular responses. His research also recently branched into very fundamental questions concerning in silico simulation of biological phenomena, and phenotype prediction by machine learning.

DOMINIQUE MICHAUD
Title of the presentation:
Le point sur la réglementation des végétaux à caractères nouveaux au Canada et ailleurs dans le monde
Bibliography:
Dominique Michaud is a Professor of Plant Physiology at Laval University, Quebec QC. He started his career at Laval U in the mid-1990’s, after completing doctoral and postdoctoral studies in Plant Biology at Laval U, CNRS (France) and The University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC). Dominique has developed a recognized expertise in Plant Molecular Biotechnology and Proteomics over the last 25 years, notably working on the basic and practical aspects of recombinant protein expression, maturating and processing in plant systems. He has developed patent-protected strategies to improve the yield and quality of vaccine antigens and therapeutic antibodies expressed in plants, including tools to protect these proteins from unwanted degradation and help them mature properly in foreign cellular environments. Recent advances in Dominique’s lab include the harnessing of transgene pleiotropic effects for stress mitigation in potato, and the rational engineering of plant expression host Nicotiana benthamiana’s architecture and hormonal physiology by different means, including Agrobacterium plasmid design and plant CRISPR-Cas9-based gene editing. Dominique has published more than 100 primary research papers, review articles, book chapters and editorials over the last 30 years, also filing several patents related to recombinant protein expression in plants. He has shown interest in the societal and regulatory aspects of plant biotechnology in Canada and abroad, conducting impact studies on genetically modified crops for different government bodies and joining plant biotechnology panels and committees at the national and international levels. Dominique is currently Head of Laval University’s Centre de recherche et d’innovation sur les végétaux, President of the Canadian Association for Plant Biotechnology, and Senior Editor of Wiley’s flagship periodical Plant Biotechnology Journal.
