2024 Palliative Medicine Resident Research Award

The resident must be enrolled in a one-year Enhanced Skills in Palliative Care residency program or in a 2-year Subspecialty in Palliative Medicine residency program at an accredited Canadian university. The resident is eligible for the award if the period of postgraduate study includes at least 6 months of the academic year July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024. Residents must be a member of the CSPCP ($51.50 annual fee: apply at CSPCP memberships).

Applicants should submit an abstract of the scholarly project including rationale, method and outcomes, using the online submission system

· 500 words maximum, excluding title and references

· The abstract should be in English or French, but winners will be required to present in English at the conference.

· The body of the abstract must be anonymized and be free of bias or ethical concerns. Failure to anonymize your abstract will result in automatic disqualification (i.e., do not mention the names of cities, hospitals, institutions, programs, etc.)

Each abstract will be judged by three reviewers selected by the Resident Award Lead and approved by the CSPCP President. The Resident Award Lead is a recognized name in research who also has Program Director experience. He or she is chosen by the Post Grad Committee Chair and the CSPCP President. Residency Directors are not eligible to be judges.

Evaluation will be based on:

• Innovation
• Scholarship (e.g., evidence-based, use of theoretical framework/principles)
• Relevance to palliative care

• Contribution of the work to the field
• The resident’s ability to transmit that knowledge in the abstract (writing style)
