For the 2nd Transatlantic ECI GPCR Symposium a diverse mix of sessions is planned, aiming to connect, inspire and guide ECIs in all carreer stages. There will be prices for best oral presentations, best posters and best poster pitch! Find out more about all sessions below!

Abstracts of ECI presentations and posters can be found in the abstract booklet!

Keynotes

Two inspiring keynote lectures by two young, emerging PIs:
Miriam Stoeber (University of Geneva) and David Olson (UC Davis).

ECI sessions

During the ECI sessions 15 Early Career Investigators will have the chance to present their work to all attendees in short oral presentations. The oral presentations will be selected from the submitted abstracts. Sessions in the following areas are planned:

→ GPCR Signaling: here, there, everywhere!
→ Structural and biophysical studies of GPCRs and their effectors
→ Emerging tools for GPCR research
→ Computational approaches for studying GPCRs
→ Targeting GPCRs for treatment of human disease

Career Paths in GPCR Research

The career panel addresses different career paths for researchers studying GPCRs. Topics will range from the choice to do research in academia or industry, research in start-ups/biotech vs. big pharma, to strategies for managing work and family, and how risk-taking impacts career decisions. This session is meant to be interactive and insightful for ECIs from graduate students to junior faculty/staff and will provide ECIs with an opportunity to engage with established and junior leaders from both academic and industrial career paths in GPCR research. All attendees will have the chance to submit questions to the panelists before and during the panel discussion which will then be discussed live. If you have a specific question in mind you would like to see discussed, you can find the link to the question submission form here!

The panel will include: JoAnn Trejo (UCSD), Chris De Graaf (Sosei Heptares), Martha Sommer (ISAR Bioscience), Aashish Manglik (UCSF), Sri Kosuri (Octant) and Jana Selent (Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute/Pompeu Fabra University).

Lunch sessions

In the lunch (breakfast/dinner) sessions, attendees will have a chance to engage with an established/junior leader in small groups. The intention of these sessions is to be more intimate, so ECIs can ask any questions they always wanted to ask to researchers more advanced in their career: about science, career trajectory, work/life balance, the difficulties of starting a new lab/industry job/... or anything else that comes to mind! As the session title implies, attendees are very welcome to have lunch/dinner/breakfast or any other kind of snack during this session!

During the session, each session leader will be in their own breakout room together with a small group of participants. The invited session leaders can be found on the main page.
On the first day (July 6) these sessions will be led by more senior PIs. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the breakout rooms. Don't feel shy to ask any questions!
On the second day (July 7) the sessions will be led by more junior PIs. Participants can pick 2 sessions to join for 20min each, to learn more about that session leader's research and ask them questions about their experience of starting their own lab.

Poster sessions

Finally, the symposium will include two poster discussion sessions giving as many ECIs as possible the chance to present their work.
Posters are uploaded to the Fourwaves platform from which they will be available for logged in attendees before and throughout the meeting. This platform also allows to contact the poster presenter directly.
Furthermore, the poster may be accompanied by a short poster pitch video (1 minute). This video will also be used to create poster pitch stream available to attendees beforehand to ensure each poster gets the attention it should.
The poster session itself will take place in wonder an interactive virtual platform that mimics an in-person networking session, which will give attendees an opportunity to directly communicate their science.
Posters will be selected from the submitted abstracts. Graduate students and postdoctoral scientists interested in participating are encouraged to submit their abstracts using the online portal.
