June 1 – ½ Day Morning Pre-Conference Sessions (9:00-12:00)

Designing Integrated Assessment in the Major to Improve Pedagogy and Student Learning
This pre-conference workshop focuses on the critical connection between curriculum design and assessment practices with a particular focus on the engagement of faculty in the design process. Participants will look at curriculum from the perspective of assignments, courses, and programs and consider the role that institutional approaches to access, pedagogy, and student learning play in shaping curricular decisions at each of these levels. Participants will identify the curriculum decisions that need to happen in their respective departments and, over the course of the workshop, create a draft plan for assessment that will document the information they need to make key design decisions. The presenters will offer lessons learned from a multi-year process of undergraduate curriculum re-design and offer “tried-and-true” resources for program faculty and academic administrators.
Presenters: Carina Self, Dean of Graduate Studies and Academic Effectiveness and Courtney Rice, Faculty and Director for Health and Wellness Programs. Both from Granite State College

June 1 – ½ Day Afternoon Pre-Conference Sessions (1:00-4:00)

Through the NECHE Evaluation Team Looking Glass
Whether you are writing or planning for your institution’s accreditation visit, would like to know more about how NECHE evaluators are selected and trained, or perhaps are interested in becoming an evaluator yourself, this session is for you. We will cover what NECHE is looking for in evaluators, how each team is built, how teams are trained, and what materials they receive to prepare them. The timeline of the on-campus visit, as well as the outputs from the team to the Commission will also be discussed. Finally, we will go through what institutions can do to ensure that the visit goes as smoothly as possible.
Presenter: Aaron Perkus, Vice President, NECHE

A Fresh Data Looking Approach for Equity Practices and Retention Strategies
Join us for a workshop that provides a lens for using data in working with faculty and departments to address equity issues and increasing issues of retention during the COVID-19 era. In this session, we will provide a hands-on experience using a modified ATLAS Looking at Data Protocol to build more targeted conversations and consultancies with faculty on the topic of retention, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The workshop will start with data discussion rounds (e.g., survey questionnaires, assessment plans, assessment results, institutional research data, and data visuals) using the protocol in groups and move to rounds using participants’ own data sets.
Presenters: Ruth Slotnick, Director, Office of Assessment, and Joanna Boeing, Assistant Director, Office of Assessment. Both from Bridgewater State University

June 1 –1/4 Day Pre-Conference Sessions

Assessment Frameworks and Division Alignment through Assessment Models (1:00-2:15)
The beginning stages of an assessment practice (whether at the division or department level) start with an established framework. This workshop will look at several learning outcome competency models that can be considered when developing an assessment plan. Once the framework has been identified, establishing alignment with the institution's mission and working through steps of the assessment cycle/CAS are critical in demonstrating how an area contributes to the larger institution's goals. A mapping technique will be used to illustrate the initial steps including the mission/goals & student learning outcomes. Administrators whose work is primarily co-curricular will benefit from this workshop.
Presenter: Danielle Licitra, Senior Special Coordinator-Institutional Assessment, Academic Innovation, and Professional Development, Bristol Community College
