3rd ACOP 2026
The Asian continent, being the largest in the world, is home to the planet's most extensive permafrost areas. These regions feature various types of permafrost, including longitudinal, alpine, and plateau permafrost. Due to global warming, permafrost is degrading at varying rates, with its disappearance most noticeable at the marginal zones of permafrost regions. This thawing process presents significant challenges to global communities, such as increased greenhouse gas emissions, reduced surface water in arid regions, and complications related to infrastructure built on permafrost.
