Adhere1 is the first conference in a series of future annual conferences focused on cell adhesion initiated by Andreja Ambriović-Ristov (Croatia), Ben Goult (United Kingdom) and Vassiliki Kostourou (Greece).
Our intention is to encourage better communication among researchers by organizing a meeting where the latest research in the field of cell adhesion would be reviewed. We would like to foster discussion and future collaborations among scientists of all career stages and that participants use the time during the conference for arranging future collaborations, finding postdocs, and that the Adhere conferences become an incubator of ideas and contacts for the future projects.
Cell adhesion is essential for cell-cell communications, interactions with extracellular matrix, cell migration, proliferation and survival. Alteration in the process of cell adhesion can lead to both acute and chronic diseases and is implicated in cancer. Adhere1 will focus on experimental and theoretical aspects of cell adhesion, the fundamental molecular mechanisms of cell adhesion and its role in different diseases as well as the application of cell adhesion in biotechnology. However, our goal is that the Adhere1 conference will determine its own content shaped by those who come and that this conference becomes a place where research from other fields that could impact the adhesion field are discussed.

The lectures will be held by Principal Investigators who wish to do so, short talks will be chosen from abstracts, while poster section will be a place where the main discussions and exchange of ideas will take place in an informal atmosphere with cheese and wine.

The Scientific Committee, selected from our colleagues who support us and will participate at the conference, will oversee the selection of lectures/posters. The Organizing Committee will deal with practical matters regarding the venue, and session programme, and will organize shared meals in order to encourage socializing among the participants.

The conference will be held from September 6 to 9, 2023, in the 3000-year old city of Zadar, on the Croatian coast in the hotel Kolovare.
