Rainy Cove, Bay of Fundy Field Trip

Rainy Cove is located on the southern coast of the Minas Basin in central Nova Scotia. East of Wolfville and west of Truro, Rainy Cove offers a quintessential view of Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic sediments in a single spot. You will get to see the Carboniferous Horton Group, which is comprised of metasediments which have preserved a variety of sedimentary and tectonic structures, including ripples, fossils, mudcracks, faults, and complex folding. The Horton Group is unconformably overlain by the Mesozoic Wolfville Formation, separated by avery noticeable angular unconformity. The sediments above are comprised of fluvial and alluvial sediments, displaying cyclical deposition features shown in sandstones and conglomerates, as well as the Bay of Fundy tidal flats to examine the sedimentary features of the tidal bars deposited by 10m tides.
