Call for Nominations Now Open

International Affairs invites nominations for the Faculty Global Engagement Awards, which recognize exceptional faculty or international scholar contributions that advance global and/or transborder engagement through research, teaching or creative activity.  

  • Faculty may submit self-nominations or peer nominations (with nominee consent).

  • Awardees will be honored at the annual awards ceremony and receive $1,000 in professional development funds

  • Nomination Deadline: March 2, 2026 (11:59pm)

Awards

  • Outstanding Global Research, Teaching or Creative Activity Award: This award recognizes a faculty member whose research, teaching or creative activities during the 2024-2025 academic year demonstrated meaningful global impact. Examples may include, but are not limited to, international collaborations, community-based interventions, globally engaged pedagogy, and peer-reviewed publications. We define impact broadly and invite nominees to explain how their work has influenced or contributed to global communities, knowledge, or practice.

  • Outstanding Transborder Research, Teaching or Creative Activity Award: This award recognizes a faculty member whose research, teaching or creative activity during the 2024-2025 academic year had a significant transborder or binational impact. Examples may include collaborations, education, community-engaged projects, binational initiatives, or peer-reviewed scholarship focused on transborder contexts. We define impact broadly and invite nominees to explain how their work has influenced or contributed to transborder communities, knowledge, or practice.

  • Outstanding International Scholar Award: This award recognizes an international visiting faculty scholar whose research, teaching or creative activity during the current academic year has "impacted" the SDSU community by contributing to and amplifying global perspectives. We understand impact broadly and invite you to provide a clear explanation of “impact” and supporting evidence as part of the nomination materials.

  • 2 Letters of Support (one from a U.S. peer/collaborator, and a second from an international peer/collaborator)

Faculty Global Engagement Symposium & Awards Ceremony

Award recipients will be honored at the Faculty Global Engagement Symposium & Awards Ceremony, which celebrates San Diego State University faculty whose work advances SDSU’s global mission.  Honorees will be featured during the Symposium and invited to share their work through a TED Talk-style presentation, followed by a reception.
