Call for abstracts

- All abstracts must be submitted electronically through the IIC Symposium website hosted by the FourWaves management platform.

- Each project must only have one submission. For projects with multiple authors/presenters, please decide in advance who the primary submitter and point of contact will be. Only the primary submitter may make changes to the project after it has been submitted. Although additional authors/presenters will receive a notification email that the project has been submitted, subsequent communications including program acceptance and schedule notifications will only go to the primary contact.

- Student submissions must include the faculty mentor/sponsor for the project on the submission form.

- Individual presenters may present more than one project.

- Only complete submissions are eligible for review.

- Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted.

- All presenters must register for the symposium.

- Student or faculty presenters with Brenau University at the Norcross Campus and those in Evening/Weekend or Online programs will be eligible to present via Zoom if needed. All other presenters must attend the event and present in person.

- Oral Presentation: Depending on your discipline you will discuss your project and findings, usually with the aid of visual presentation software such PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Canva.

- Poster Presentation: Posters summarize your research in a concise and visually attractively manner. Conference participants read the posters and ask questions of the presenter. Poster sessions are drop-in style, with the presenter stationed at their poster the entire time with guests able to come and go at their leisure.

- Performance or Artistic Demonstration: This type of presentation may include, but is not limited to, a performance of selected works through dance or theatre, a reading of prose or poetry, display of media, or an artistic demonstration. On the submission form, please be very clear about the setup you will need to successfully present your work.

Projects that are submitted to be presented at the symposium should be identified as meeting the definition for one or more of our general tracks:

- Innovation: new or emerging research or ideas, a new approach to an existing problem, introduction of a new method

-Inquiry: the study of existing research, exploring and summarizing current problems, seeking answers through investigation

- Creativity: performances, artistic demonstrations, readings of prose or poetry, presenting creative works

Presentations will be grouped into concurrent sessions primarily based on the general track, with efforts made to also group presentations based on the field or subject area.

The IIC Symposium accepts projects of varying status, which should be indicated on your submission form:

- Developed/Complete Research: Presentations should represent completed empirical research. Presenters will be able to clearly explain the purpose of their research and how their findings can benefit the field of study.

- Emerging/Ongoing Research: Presentations should represent research projects that are not completed but might be of significant interest to the university community. Both conceptual and empirically-based papers on "work-in-progress" projects fall into this category.

- Creative Activity: Creative activities and performances should represent the final product of a scholarly creative activity. These projects could include, but are not limited to, submissions from Dance, Art, Music, Creative Writing, Media and Cultural Studies, and Theatre, Film, and Digital Production. Presenters should be able to discuss the research/inspiration behind the final product.

Abstracts that are submitted for consideration will be reviewed and scored based on the following criteria:

- Topic or research question is novel, innovative, or creative

- Strategy or methodology of the project is sound and well-accepted in the field of study

- Purpose of the research or project is clearly stated

-Professional writing and citation style appropriate to the field of study are demonstrated
