COPL's 35th Annual Conference/Summer School

Dear optics and photonics community,

Welcome to the transactional website of the 35th Centre for Optics, Photonics and Lasers annual conference (COPL), to be held on June 4, 2024 at the École de technologie supérieure de Montréal (ÉTS).

New this year, COPL and REQOP (Réseau étudiant québécois en optique photonique) are taking tradition a step further by organizing a Summer School in conjunction with the Annual Conference, to be held on June 5 also at the École de technologie supérieure de Montréal.

On this site, you'll find all the information you need to take part, including programs, a brief description of the conferences and other logistical information to help you navigate your way around the two days.

It's also the platform for registering and submitting your scientific poster proposal, if this applies to you.

For your information, participants will be welcomed from 9:00 am on Tuesday June 4, in the Salle des Pas perdus adjacent to Auditorium A-1600.

COPL Annual Conference - Tuesday, June 4

For this 35th edition, two main themes summarize the conferences:

  • Exploring the application potential of photonics
  • Discovering the scope of careers and research in photonics

Celebrating its 35th edition, the COPL Annual Conference needs no introduction. Every year, the symposium attracts some 200 participants from faculty, research professionals, technical staff, students and industrial partners.

It's a tradition for the strategic cluster, which has enjoyed more than enviable growth since its beginnings. Today, COPL brings together 58 researchers leading research teams totalling 500 students at 8 universities and 2 colleges across Quebec.

The annual event brings together members and partners to discuss scientific news, issues and challenges in the sector, while contributing to the dynamism of the optic-photonics field in Quebec.

Professors, professionals, technicians, students and partners, the day of June 4 is dedicated to you!

Registration is now open!

* Round-trip transportation is available from Quebec City.

Summer School - Wednesday June 5

The 1st edition of the Summer School is aimed at COPL student members. This one-day seminar, organized in collaboration with the Réseau étudiant québécois en optique photonique (REQOP), will cover topics such as research culture in universities, the integration of highly qualified personnel into the job market, the development of photonic devices (from a packaging point of view) and the reality experienced by Deeptech start-ups.

Central theme: Photonic components from theory to Practice: Concept, Design, and Application

Three sessions:

  • Navigating PhD studies and the job market
  • From idea to devices design
  • Success stories that are not without flaws

For this 1st edition, the organizing team aims to bring together around a hundred students who will be able to take advantage of this day to exchange views on their common universes and career aspirations, to equip themselves to navigate doctoral studies and the job market, and to familiarize themselves with project management, from the idea to the development of photonic devices, right through to the creation of start-ups from innovative ideas.

Students, take advantage of this opportunity for training and exchange off the beaten track!

* Space is limited.

*Transportation is provided and a block of rooms has been reserved for participants departing from Quebec City and Sherbrooke.
