Perinatal determinants: the origins of child health

The sixth edition of the Provincial Congress of Mother-Child Research will take place on October 13 and 14, 2022 at the MIL campus of the University of Montreal.

The four major pediatric centers in Quebec will participate: CHU Quebec, Center de Recherche Sainte-Justine, CHU Sherbrooke, and the RI-MUHC.

    Maria B. Ospina, MSc, PhD

    Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Queen’s University

    Dr. Ospina is an associate professor with the Department of Public Health Sciences at Queen’s University, a clinical epidemiologist, and population health researcher. Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Ospina was a Canada Research Chair in Life Course, Social Environments and Health at the University of Alberta and recipient of the prestigious Martha Cook Piper Research prize. Her research program uses a life course approach and epidemiological methods to assess the developmental origins of health inequalities and how critical periods of human development such as pregnancy and the first 1,000 days of life influence future health. Dr. Ospina’s has near 100 peer-reviewed publications. Her research has been supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Lung Association, Alberta Women’s Health Foundation, and PolicyWise for Children and Families, among others. Dr. Ospina is also secretary of DOHaD Canada and peer-reviewer for CIHR, Fonds de Recherche du Québec, the UK National Institute for Health Research and Medical Research Council, the Ireland Health Research Board and the Health Research Council of New Zealand in the areas of health inequalities, pregnancy and perinatal health.
