Conférence SCM 2019 - 2019 CSM Conference

We are very pleased to invite you to the 69th Annual Conference of the Canadian Society of Microbiologists (CSM 2019) that will be held on the main campus of the Université de Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Quebec from June 10-13, 2019.

The conference will cover all three sections of the Canadian Society of Microbiologists: Applied & Environmental Microbiology, Infection and Immunity as well as Molecular Genetics and Cellular Microbiology. Our scientific program will highlight multiple aspects of the relationship between microorganisms and health through the One Health concept, which will be articulated in five related symposia: antibiotics and resistance in animal production and public health, alternatives to antibiotics, the impact of climate change on vector-borne diseases and emerging pathogens, and the microbiome and microbial interactions in molecular pathogenesis. Recent developments in Applied and Environmental Microbiology will be covered in sessions about industrial microbes and biotechnology, plants and microbes, environmental microbiomes, microbial chemosphere and food microbiology. Finally, two sessions will be dedicated to systems and synthetic biology, hot topics that have gained considerable momentum in modern microbiology in the past few years.

The keynote opening lecture will be given by Dr. Rodolphe Barrangou from North Carolina State University, a world-class specialist on the biology and genetics of CRIPSR-Cas immune systems in bacteria. Every session will open with an invited lecture given by an established or a junior investigator. Additional presenters, including post-doctoral fellows and graduate students, will be selected among the submitted abstracts.

The Local Organizing Committee of the Université de Sherbrooke is committed to make of CSM 2019 a successful event that will showcase the breadth, diversity and excellence of the Canadian community of microbiologists. Not only will we have an exciting scientific program but we will also make sure that your experience in Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships is worth the trip! Sherbrooke is renowned for the beauty of its downtown area, with its city murals, the Nations Lake, numerous parks and bike tracks, and for the quality of its local restaurants and microbreweries. The Eastern Townships, located at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, is also renowned for the beauty of its nature, where rivers, lakes, small cities, and mountains all blend into amazing and spectacular landscapes. It is the ideal region to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, golf, or camping in one of the nearby national parks, all located at less than a one-hour drive from Sherbrooke. We will also organize an optional visit to Foresta Lumina in the Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook, a world-renowned multimedia nighttime experience that promises to be memorable.

We look forward to host CSM 2019 and to welcome you in Sherbrooke in June. In the meantime, you can follow us on Twitter at @csm2019 to get the latest news regarding the event.
