6 parallel sessions[ACDE/CSSHE Joint Session] Building systemic change for equity: Implementing EDID policies in higher education contexts
At present, most Canadian institutions connected with higher education have published highly visible statements on their commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization (EDID). Notwithstanding, Dr. Carl James, Jean Augustine Chair in Education, Community & Diaspora at York University and ACDE’s 2021 Sherman Lecturer, posits that “…changes will not come about simply through verbal rhetoric, targeted hiring, or training sessions where individuals engage in self-reflection on their attitudes, values, and behaviours, but through critical examination of institutional policies, programs, and practices that result in the removal of systemic barriers which have operated over the years to maintain the inequitable situation being addressed.” (James, 2021). This moderated panel session sponsored by the Association of Canadian Deans of Education (ACDE) asks individuals and, by extension, the institutions within their spheres of influence, to grapple with the actions and accountability stemming from institutional EDID policies by examining how far we have come and how far we still have to go.

G-4 [Networking]
It’s hard to edit your own writing, especially when your deadline is looming. This session introduces a step-by-step approach that will enable you to see your own words through a series of lenses that bring a fresh perspective to your writing. You'll learn to use x-ray vision—that is, a way to look through the content of your own text, to see through to its structure. By editing at a structural level, you'll be able to see what you've actually written—not what you think is on the page—and make strategic choices about the 'rules' you want to follow and the ones you want to break. Participants will leave this session with a set of concrete actions that they can take to effectively edit their own work and make it tighter, more efficient, and more readable.

[CSSHE/CSA/CSSE/CNIE] Towards True Reconciliation: Decolonizing Systems and Healing Communities
Congress 2025’s theme Reframing Togetherness, offers an opportunity to model meaningful togetherness while critically examining colonial hierarchies that have excluded Indigenous peoples from their lands, languages and cultures and reinforcing historically rooted injustices. As we mark the 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, this moment calls for deep reflection and critical engagement with the ongoing impacts of colonialism in education and beyond. This session challenges institutions to rethink their commitments to justice and reconciliation and offers practical guidance for scholars, educators, and graduate students, equipping us with the knowledge needed to move toward more equitable and meaningful reconciliation within the Canadian reality.
