2025 CWSS-SCM Annual Meeting - Gatineau, QC
2025 CWSS/SCM Annual Meeting
On behalf of the Canadian Weed Science Society / Société Canadienne de Malherbologie, we wish to welcome you to our 2025 Annual General Meeting. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Biocontrol, Biosurveillance and Biodiversity ”. The conference will be held at the Hilton at Lac-Leamy, located at 3 Boulevard du Casino,
Gatineau, QC from November 3rd to 6th, 2025.
The conference organizers are developing an exciting program regarding various aspects of weed science, invasive plants, and the interactions of different organisms with noxious plant species. The program includes graduate student presentations, plenary speakers, posters and concurrent presentation sessions. Panels and workshops on grant writing and scientific communication are also planned.
Gatineau, Quebec, including the area where the Hilton Lac-Leamy is located, sits on the unceded traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg Nation. This land has been home to the Algonquin people for millennia, long before the arrival of European settlers. The Tenàgàdino Zìbì (Gatineau River) and surrounding region have served as vital travel routes, village sites, and places of gathering, trade, and cultural exchange among Indigenous nations.
The National Capital Region (NCR) that includes Gatineau, QC and Ottawa, ON, plays a vital role in Canadian agriculture through its Greenbelt, which surrounds Ottawa and Gatineau and includes over 5,400 hectares of farmland. Managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC), this land supports diverse and sustainable farming practices that contribute to local food security and regional resilience. The proximity of these farms to urban centers allows for a dynamic agricultural sector that connects communities with fresh, locally grown food.
Some of the main attractions of the region include:
Parliament Hill - The heart of Canada's federal government, known for its stunning Gothic Revival architecture and daily Changing of the Guard ceremony in summer.
Canadian Museum of History - Located in Gatineau, this museum offers immersive exhibits on Canadian heritage and Indigenous cultures, with breathtaking views of Parliament Hill across the river.
Rideau Canal - A UNESCO World Heritage Site, popular for boating in summer and transformed into the world’s largest skating rink in winter.
Gatineau Park - A vast conservation area offering hiking, cycling, and scenic lookouts, especially vibrant during fall foliage season.
