International Conference on Clinical Ethics and Consultation & Canadian Bioethics Society

Bonjour!

Welcome to the 2024 ICCEC & CBS joint conference in Montreal on “Partnering with Patients and Communities in Healthcare Ethics”.

The 18th annual International Conference on Clinical Ethics and Consultation (ICCEC) as well as the 32nd annual Canadian Bioethics Society (CBS) conference will be held jointly in the vibrant Ville de Montréal, Canada on May 29-31, 2024. Please see our program for more details on scheduling for both conferences.

Patient partnership and community engagement have long been recognized as key factors in improving patient care and population health outcomes. From participation in interdisciplinary teams to research and policymaking, patients and communities are now commonly included in the provision and development of healthcare. Living up to the ideal of meaningful partnerships is not without its challenges, especially in our post-pandemic pluralistic societies. Join us in 2024 as a diverse group of ethicists, researchers, healthcare professionals, patients, families and community partners from across the globe discuss how to harness the power of meaningful partnerships in healthcare ethics and consultation.

Can’t join us in person? A hybrid formula has been planned so that content may be accessed virtually. The online program track will focus on content especially important to international attendees who might be unable to attend due to travel constraints.

The ICCEC and CBS 2024 organizing committees recognize that the event is taking place on unceded Indigenous territory and wishes to salute those who, since time immemorial, have been its traditional guardians. The organizing committees expresses respect for the contribution of indigenous peoples to the culture of societies here and around the world.

Call for proposals | DEADLINE : NOVEMBER 15, 2023

The 2024 ICCEC & CBS Joint Conference call for proposals will be open September 15 to November 15, 2023. In line with the conference’s main theme “Partnering with patients and communities”, we are inviting proposals that investigate and question how all aspects of ethics (clinical ethics, research ethics, policy in health and healthcare, bioethics) consider patient and community engagement. Corresponding authors whose proposals are selected for inclusion in the conference will be informed at the beginning of February, 2024. All speakers must register for the conference and present at the conference venue in Montreal.

Trainees are encouraged to submit their work as dedicated sessions are reserved for student participants. Bursaries will be made available for students from low-income countries, allocated randomly amongst the proposal with the highest reviewer scores.

Conflict of interest (COI) forms must be submitted at the time of submission for all speakers. Proposals can be submitted in English or French. Bilingual moderators will be available at all sessions to assist with discussions.

Proposals will be reviewed using a structured scoring system. Reviewer scores and comments are confidential and are not available to individuals outside of the review process. Decisions to accept or decline proposals and their presentation format are final, and the sole decisions of the ICCEC & CBS scientific committee.
