INVITED SPEAKERS
Justine Karst, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta. She studies the mycorrhizal ecology of boreal forests, with a particular interest in ectomycorrhizal fungal function, plant-soil interactions, and forest restoration and recovery after disturbance. Professor Karst currently serves as President of the International Mycorrhiza Society, contributing to the advancement of both research and education in mycorrhizal ecology. A strong advocate for science communication, she is a sought-after expert known for promoting evidence-based perspectives on topics such as common mycorrhizal networks.
Frank Sainsbury, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics, Griffith University, and an ARC Future Fellow. His research focuses on the assembly and engineering of virus capsids, using synthetic virology to develop virus-like particles and protein assemblies with applications in health, agriculture, and biotechnology. Prof Sainsbury is recognized for his pioneering work on plant-based protein expression systems that supported Phase III clinical trials of influenza vaccine candidates and led to a major UK innovation award.
